MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Joel Pineiro (strained groin) was injured shagging fly balls on May 21 and won't start a game until May 31. LHP Mark Mulder (shoulder surgery in September 2007) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He has been set back again with shoulder issues although he was to begin throwing again this week in Florida.
RHP Jason Isringhausen (lacerated and infected right hand) went on the 15-day disabled list May 16, and has begun throwing from a mound, also in Florida. But the struggling closer surely won't be activated this weekend when he technically can come off the 15-day disabled list.
RHP Brad Thompson (right elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 23. He played long-toss May 14, and he was getting close to starting a rehab assignment.
RHP Matt Clement (shoulder surgery in September 2006) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He started pitching to hitters in late May.
RHP Chris Carpenter (Tommy John surgery in July 2007) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He was throwing bullpen sessions in late March, and he expects to be ready by late June or early July.
RHP Josh Kinney (broken right elbow in August 2007) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He experienced tightness in his elbow in late April and was shut down from throwing until mid-May.
OF Juan Gonzalez (left abdominal strain) played only one game this spring. He was placed on the temporary inactive list March 26.
LHP Tyler Johnson (left shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He had season-ending surgery May 14.
RF Juan Encarnacion (fractured eye socket in August 2007) went on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to March 21. He won't play this year.
