--LHP Dennys Reyes, working a perfect ninth inning Thursday, picked up his first save since 1999, when he had his other two saves with Cincinnati. The year before, while pitching for the Reds, Reyes had given up Mark McGwire's 60th homer.
--RF Ryan Ludwick extended his hitting streak to 14 games, in a carryover from last season, with a seventh-inning single.
--CF Rick Ankiel didn't start, meaning that each of the Cardinals' four outfielders -- Ankiel, Chris Duncan, Ryan Ludwick and Colby Rasmus -- had one start off in the first series of the year.
--The Cardinals' last nine-inning one-hitter was by RHP Chris Carpenter on June 14, 2005, when he beat Toronto in a complete game.
