--RF Ryan Ludwick, who had hit safely in his final 11 games last year, had a run-scoring single and a home run Monday. His home run was the first by a Cardinal outfielder on opening day since Larry Walker hit one four years ago.
--1B Albert Pujols had his first three-hit opening day (He also walked). In his nine opening-day appearances, Pujols is hitting .419 and slugging .742.

RHP Chris Carpenter (left calf discomfort) was scratched from his April 3 start after getting hurt while running on March 30. The ailment was believed to be minor.
3B Troy Glaus (right shoulder surgery in January 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He didn't heal as quickly as was hoped, and he may not play before July.
LHP Jaime Garcia (Tommy John elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He likely will miss all or nearly all of the 2009 season.
