Trevor Burmeister

School: Verona

Year: senior Sports: football, Baseball Football highlights: Burmeister is a three-time letterwinner and a two-year starter at quarterback for the Wildcats, who won their fourth straight conference title and finished second in the 2008 WIAA Division 2 state football playoffs. A co-captain as a senior, he completed 94-of-163 passes (57.7 percent) for 1,485 yards and 16 TDs. He was 11-of-26 for 165 yards and a score and also ran for a TD in Verona's 28-14 loss to state champion Kimberly in the title game. He earned All-Big Eight Conference second team honors as a senior and Badger South Conference honorable mention honors as a junior.

Baseball highlights: Burmeister is a three-time letterwinner and a three-year starter. He played second base for the Wildcats as a freshman and sophomore and moved to left field his junior year, when he earned All-Badger South Conference first-team honors and honorable mention all-area recognition.

Melissa Hlavacka

School: Middleton

Year: senior Sports: volleyball, softball, basketball Volleyball highlights: Hlavacka is a two-time letterwinner who played in 82 games as a defensive specialist, and outside hitter as a senior for the Cardinals. Middleton finished her senior year with a 36-11 record, which included winning the Big Eight Conference title and advancing to the WIAA Division 1 state quarterfinals. Hlavacka finished with 27 service aces and 115 digs as a senior, when she served as a co-captain and was named Most Improved Player.

Other sports highlights: Hlavacka is a returning letterwinner in softball. She was a reserve outfielder and a pinch runner for the Cardinals as a junior, when Middleton finished second in the Big Eight Conference and advanced to the WIAA Division 1 state quarterfinals. Hlavacka played basketball her freshman and sophomore years as a point guard.

Cumulative GPA: 3.78 Favorite subject: English Advice: "Get as involved as you can. Do as much as you can manage. It's fun to meet new people."

How I got started in sports: I began playing soccer and tee-ball in kindergarten, swimming when I was 8 years old, basketball in third grade, volleyball in fifth grade and track in sixth grade.
