ST. LOUIS (AP) - Catcher Jason LaRue and the St. Louis Cardinals agreed Friday to a $950,000, one-year contract.

The 34-year-old was eligible to become a free agent after serving as primary backup for Yadier Molina last season, his first with the Cardinals.
"Jason was a great fit for our ballclub," general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. "His contributions carried not only onto the field, but also in the clubhouse and away from the ballpark, where he provided a good veteran leadership."
LaRue hit .213 with four homers and 21 RBIs in 61 games. He also has played for the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals.
In addition to his base salary, LaRue would make a $50,000 bonus if he has 60 starts.
