Kennedy sees days with Cardinals dwindling
CHICAGO (AP) - Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy expects this to be his last season with St. Louis.

"I'm probably not going to be here (next year)," he said Friday before the Cardinals played the Cubs.

He said he hadn't asked to be traded, but wouldn't mind playing for another team in 2009.

"For next year that will probably be the best situation," he said. "I don't think I'm done playing. I want to be able to play everyday."

Kennedy, who signed a three-year, $10 million deal in 2007, has seen his playing time decrease this season. He had 218 at-bats before the All-Star break but only 97 since then.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa had no problem with Kennedy expressing a desire for more playing time.

"Everything Kennedy said I agree with," La Russa said. "He's an everyday player not playing everyday. He should look for a place where he gets to play everyday."

"If he wants to go someplace, I would pull for him," La Russa continued. "He's handled the situation with terrific professionalism. I like him personally. I just felt the best way to go was the way I went. It's been tough for him to take but he's handled it."

Kennedy, who was the Cardinals first-round draft pick in 1997, is batting .263 with one home run and 30 RBI in 106 games. He struggled in 2007, batting .219 with three homers and 18 RBI in 87 games. He is scheduled to make $4 million next year in the final year of his contract.
